The New Student Checklist will help you navigate all of the required action items you must complete prior to your arrival on campus. Please click through each checklist item below and review the content along with any important links or to-do items. Take some time to review all of this information so you are prepared for your New Student Orientation experience.

First Year Check List
Get started by accepting your admission to NJCU! Please visit our Admissions page for steps to accept your space for the new year if you have not already done so!
Access the ()
Username: Your Username is your NJCU issued email address. (i.e., xxxxxxxx@njcu.edu)
Password: Your Password is the one associated with your GothicNet Portal and Blackboard account.
Note: New students should have received a letter from Admissions office with their credentials to access Email, GothicNet and Blackboard

NJCU email is the official means of communication with all students. Please check your NJCU Email daily to:
- Stay up to date on all payment deadlines, class assignments, meetings, and events
- Hear about opportunities like scholarships, clubs, and more that will enrich your college experience.
- Notified about emergency cancellations, closures, delays, and incidents.
There are several ways you can talk to an academic advisor regarding your class schedule:
- Schedule an appointment to meet with an advisor
- Physically visit our Advisement Center during our walk-in hours
- Utilize our virtual walk-in hours where you can speak to an academic advisor via Zoom

Before your appointment:
- Check access to GothicNet, NJCU email, and Blackboard.
- Develop a list of questions regarding your academic progress.
- Develop a list of desired courses.
- Be ready to have the best advisement session of your life!
During your appointment:
- You will create a Degree Map with your advisor.
- You will have a safe environment to share your aspirations, concerns, and interests.
- You will become aware of resources on campus.

After your appointment:
- Understand your degree progress, course sequence & requirements.
- Understand the support systems & knowledge necessary for success.

Are you ready to jump onto your Gothic Knight Launch call?
- The Gothic Knight Launch is a one-on-one phone call with an NJCU staff member or student who will walk you through the important steps on your checklist, review the orientation process and offer an opportunity to ask questions.
- Your phone call will come from 201-200-xxxx and last about 20 minutes.
- Your orientation leaders will also reach out over the summer to discuss any questions you may have.
All students applying for housing must be registered full-time and, if domestic, have filed their FAFSA.
Make Your Housing Deposit Online
- Log in to . Enter your seven-digit GothicNet/Student ID and password.
- Click on Student Dashboard.
- Click on View Bill/Make a Payment.
- Click on the green button. Go to Bill & Payment Account Center.
- Click on Deposits.
- Select a Term and the Deposit Payment Account.
- Follow the directions for your desired payment method.

How to Update Contact Information?
Current students/Faculty/Staff can update their contact information through the GothicNet portal by:
- Logging in
- Select "Classic Home"
- Click on "My Personal Info"
NJCU Emergency Notification System NJCU Alert Us
NJCU has an Emergency Notification System (ENS) called NJCU Alert Us, which allows the University to contact the community in the event of an emergency by sending messages via:
- Text message
- Voice message (mobile or landline)
When an emergency requires the NJCU community's attention or action, NJCU Alert Us will be activated and you will be notified by the methods noted above using the personal information you provided. NJCU Alert Us will cycle through each contact method three times or until you confirm receipt. Of course, if you have not provided contact information for text messaging, for example, NJCU Alert Us will not attempt to send you a text message. Your contact information must be accurate and up-to-date to receive emergency notifications.
How to Sign Up?
NJCU Alert Us is an ENS that all students, Faculty, and Staff automatically subscribe to once they become a NJCU affiliate.
How to Update Contact Information?
Current students/Faculty/Staff can update their contact information through the GothicNet portal by:
- Logging in
- Select "Classic Home"
- Click on "My Personal Info"
- Select "NJCU Alert Us"
- Verify information and authorization of receiving cellular emergency notifications.
- Click "Save" or "Confirm"

All active students and ¿ìèÆƽâ°æ employees are eligible to submit a photo online for your new official University ID card by visiting . An online submission allows you to upload a current photo of yourself. Photo submissions are reviewed manually. It may take up to 2 business days to process. To take advantage of this convenient option, follow the instructions below:
- Select "Submit ID Photo" on the left-hand panel.
- Follow the instructions to upload your photo.
- Should you receive a rejection of your photo, you will be notified via email within two business days unless you have set a preference to receive notifications via text message.
*If you do not receive your email in your inbox, check your spam or Proof Point.
Important: Please remember to bring your valid government-issued photo identification card to obtain your new NJCU ID card at Campus Card Services Hepburn Hall, Room 114. (Either U.S. Driver's License issued by DMV, Security/ U.S. Green Card, Passport book, or U.S. Military ID Card. Driver's Licenses stamped "void” and Passport cards are not accepted.
When submitting your photos, please make sure your photo meets these guidelines:
- Sized 1.25 x 1.25
- It is a current self-portrait
- It is a clear, good-quality photograph
- It has a plain, white background
- Your head is centered and facing forward

Submit your final high school transcript (with graduation date) to the Office of University Admissions. If you have completed college coursework at another university, you must also request that an official transcript be submitted to NJCU for transfer credit consideration.

Request your immunization records from your school or doctor as soon as possible to allow time for processing. New Jersey State Law requires all students born after 1956 to submit proof of immunity to Measles (2 doses), Mumps, and Rubella or file a valid exception.
