Consultation
We welcome the opportunity to consult with faculty and staff who are concerned about a student in distress. Please contact the Center at counselingcenter@njcu.edu or at 201-200-3165 and provide a phone number where we can reach you to discuss your concerns and work with you to develop an action plan appropriate to the situation.
Assisting Students with Initial Appointments
To be eligible for Counseling Center services, an NJCU student must be enrolled in the current semester. We're happy to refer previously enrolled and future students to off-campus services. You're welcome to support and assist a student with reaching out for the first time, but we we'll need to speak with the student directly to set up an appointment - we cannot allow third parties (parents, faculty, staff, or peers) to make appointments for students. Students can make an initial appointment by contacting the Center at counselingcenter@njcu.edu or 201-200-3165.
Mental Health Emergencies
For mental health emergencies that require immediate assistance, please see the University's Emergency Protocol for Assisting Students.
Confidentiality
Please keep in mind that, while we welcome your referrals, our services are strictly confidential. We are ethically and legally prohibited from releasing any information regarding any individual receiving services at the Center without a signed Release of Information form. This includes information about whether someone attended an appointment you referred them for.
If a student receives counseling services from our office and they'd like us to release information to you, they should contact the Center to discuss their needs.
