Making an Appointment

You can make an appointment by contacting the Center at counselingcenter@njcu.edu or (201) 200-3165 during office hours.  When you request an appointment, you'll be asked for your name, your Gothic ID number, your phone number, the address where you're currently living, and the times you're available from Monday to Friday.  We'll make every effort to schedule you for an appointment as soon as possible.

Let's Talk appointments are usually scheduled on the half hour, and are 25 minutes long.  Find information about Let's Talk services here.

Ongoing counseling appointments are usually scheduled on the hour, and are 45 minutes long. Prior to seeing your counselor for your initial appointment you'll need to complete a series of intake forms, which will take approximately 30 minutes.  Find information about ongoing counseling services here.

Students who are experiencing a mental health emergency should seek crisis services. Find information about crisis assistance here.

Wait List Information

At times, due to very high demand for our services, the Counseling Center maintains a wait list of students requesting ongoing counseling. When this is the case, students who call for an initial appointment will be offered the following options:

  1. To add their names to our wait list for ongoing services.
  2. To make a Let's Talk appointment while remaining on the wait list for ongoing services.
  3. To obtain referral information from us regarding local community mental health agencies and local private practitioners who may be able to provide ongoing services sooner than we can.
  4. To remain on our wait list while seeking counseling elsewhere until an appointment becomes available at our office.

Please be assured that we're doing our very best to continue providing students with quality services as quickly as our schedules allow. Thank you for your patience!

Cancellations

If you're unable to attend a scheduled appointment, please call the Center as soon as possible to let us know of the cancellation. If staff are unavailable to answer your call, you may leave a voicemail message to inform us of the cancellation). Please note that, due to the high demand for our services, if you miss or cancel two appointments in a row, you won't be eligible for services until the following semester.

If your counselor needs to reschedule, we'll make every effort to contact you as soon as possible. Please be sure to provide us with a current contact number and e-mail address so we can reach you under these circumstances!
