Voice and Audiences

Our Voice

NJCU's students are bold, authentic, diverse and determined to change their lives for the better. Our voice reflects this. We are confident and direct while also being down-to-earth and personal. We don't ever want to sound institutional or overly authoritative. We don't speak at our audiences, we relate to them.

Our Audiences

We have many, many audiences, but the key ones are listed below. Whenever we communicate with them, we want to see things from their point of view, and relate to them in ways they will understand and value.

Prospective Undergraduate Students: These are primarily students in high school who are considering attending college, but we may also be speaking to younger students in elementary and middle school.

Prospective Graduate Students: These are students who already hold an undergraduate degree who would like to pursue a graduate certificate or degree.

Prospective Transfer Students: These are students who are currently at a community college as well as those who are adults with some college but no degree. In some cases, we may be also speaking to high school students who plan to initially attend community college and then transfer to a four-year institution when done.

Influencers: These are people who have the ability to persuade others about the value of NJCU. They might be parents of prospective students; thought leaders in business; or fellow faculty and staff at other universities.

NJCU Community: This group includes faculty, students, staff, as well as members of our boards and alumni and friends.
