Swimming Classes
Group Learn to Swim lessons are available for children ages 6-14 years. Adult group classes and teen group lessons are also offered. At NJCU our classes are taught on different skill levels, whether you’re just learning how to swim or refining your skill proficiency. Our program is designed to benefit swimmers of all abilities. Each group learn to swim class will be offered for five consecutive Saturdays, several times each semester. Unfortunately, no make-up classes are offered for missed group lessons.

Course times are listed during the registration process – please review your class information page once you have selected your level and note your class time.
We are now offering private swim lessons for children and adults.
Minimum age requirement is 6 years old.
Cost: $349.00
Program: 5 classes
Class length: 30 minutes
Schedule: Friday, Saturday, Sunday with the exact times and dates to be determined between participant and instructor. Additional private swim programs are available such as, semi-private classes and longer class times. A cancellation policy of 24-hour notification is required.
Swimming Course Descriptions
Kids Level 1 This introductory course for those ages 6-10 years old, who cannot swim or for those with limited ability helps children to feel comfortable in the water and covers the front and back floats, locomotion and basic rescue skills, and personal safety.
Kids Level 2 - This course builds upon the skills acquired in the Level I course and covers the front and back crawl strokes, the fundamentals of treading water and deep-water swimming, and additional self-help and safety measures.
Kids Level 3 - This course enables children to develop confidence in their strokes and swim greater distances. The elementary backstroke, diving, and safety rules are introduced.
Kids Level 4 - This course enables students to improve the breaststroke and sidestroke, swim greater distances using the backstroke, and study additional safety skills, including personal water safety skill sets.
Kids Level 5 - This course enables students to refine the breaststroke and sidestroke, swim greater distances using the backstroke, and study additional safety skills at a higher level.
Teen Learn to Swim Level 1 - This introductory course for those ages 11-17 years old, who are just starting out or have limited swimming proficiency. We assist students to feel comfortable in and around the water. Classes cover breathe control, front and back floating, locomotion, treading water and survival floating, introduction to deep water as well as rescue skills and personal water safety.
Junior Lifeguarding – This course provides young, experienced swimmers with practical knowledge and skills they can develop in preparation for becoming a lifeguard. The course includes use of rescue equipment, water safety and basic water rescues, emergency response, pool rules and regulations and swimming refinement. Participants must be ages 9-14, and able to swim 100 yards continuously using both the front-crawl and breaststroke, tread water for 60 seconds and swim under water for a minimum of 10 yards.
Swim Team Prep - Designed to help students who have successfully completed "Beginning Swimming for Kids Level 5, this course enables students to work on skill proficiency and the competitive strokes required for participation on a swim team. Strokes include freestyle, back crawl, breaststroke and butterfly, and skills include breathing and timing, body position, balance and motion, starts, and turns. Participants focus on swimming with ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances. The class is limited to eight students.
Adult Level 1 - An introductory course for those who cannot swim or have limited ability, this course includes the study and practice of such basic swimming skills as water entry, body and breath control, floating, leg and arm movements, and safety skills.
Adult Level 2 - This course helps students with fundamentals to become comfortable in deep water. Further develop their front crawl stroke by coordinating rhythmic breathing. The course also introduces the backstroke, personal water safety skills.
Adult Level 3 - This course helps students build confidence and improve their strokes to swim further distances. Swimmers must be comfortable in deep water. The course also introduces the breaststroke as well as diving and additional personal water safety skills.
Adult Level 4 – This course assists swimmers who are comfortable with a variety of strokes and confident in deep water improve and refine their skill sets. This course focuses primarily on stroke refinement and proficiency.
