There are many opportunities to teach English or other subjects overseas through private international organizations or through US or other governments’ programs. Here are a few links:

The Fulbright Program’s English Teaching Assistant (ETA) Program places in classrooms abroad to provide assistance to the local English teachers. ETA’s help teach English language while serving as cultural ambassadors for the U.S. The age and academic level of the students varies by country, ranging from kindergarten to university level.

US Teaching Assistantship Program in Austria provides US college and university graduates with opportunities to work at secondary schools throughout Austria as teaching assistants. 

 The Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program is aimed at promoting grass-roots international exchange between Japan and other nations. 

GoAbroad.com is a comprehensive Teach Abroad directory with 1278 verified teaching jobs and TEFL and ESL Certification programs in 225 countries.   

CIEE offers paid teaching positions in nine countries (Chile, China, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Peru, South Korea, Spain, Thailand, and Vietnam) for university graduates looking to teach English abroad and immerse themselves in a foreign community.   

The Spanish Ministry of Education supports the North American Language and Culture Assistants in Spain program 

Volunteering Abroad

Volunteering abroad offers a unique opportunity for intercultural understanding. Volunteers can engage in a wide range of activities, including teaching English and participating in environmental and community development projects. These programs provide invaluable experience and can be an asset on your resume. ​

Volunteers for Peace 
Volunteers for Peace offers over 2400 affordable ($200-$400) short-term international voluntary service programs in 90 countries.  

Global Volunteer Network 
The Global Volunteer Network offers volunteer opportunities in community projects throughout the world through partner organizations in Cambodia, China, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Ghana, Honduras, India, Kenya, Nepal, New Zealand, Philippines, Romania, Russia, South Africa, Tanzania, Thailand, Uganda, USA, and Vietnam.  

World Wide Volunteer Services 
World Wide Volunteer Services offers programs in Africa, China, Europe, India, the Caribbean, and the Middle East. Volunteer opportunities include teaching English, working in local clinics and hospitals, helping children in summer camps and orphanages, and volunteering for community outreach and service projects.  

Council on International Educational Exchange 
Council on International Educational Exchange provides information on hosting international high school students, and on internship and work opportunities abroad. There is also a database for U.S. employers seeking seasonal staff and international interns.  

The International Volunteer Programs Association (IVPA)     
Council on International Educational Exchange is an alliance of nonprofit, non-governmental organizations based in the Americas, that are involved in international volunteer and internship exchanges.  

The Peace Corps    
Since 1961, the Peace Corps has shared with the world America's most precious resource—its people. Peace Corps Volunteers serve in 71 countries in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Central and South America, Europe, and the Middle East. Collaborating with local community members, volunteers work in areas such as education, youth outreach and community development, the environment, and information technology.  

Cross Cultural Solutions

Volunteer Abroad is the perfect short-term international volunteer experience, designed with flexibility and individual attention in mind.  

Global Vision International
Global Vision International (GVI) runs responsible volunteering programs in over 40 countries around the world, offering volunteers the chance for a hands-on experience by personally contributing to important conservation initiatives and community projects. Volunteer programs run from one week to 2 years.  

International Volunteer HQ 
International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ) provides safe, quality and extremely affordable volunteering placements in developing countries all over the world.
