LinkedIn To-Do List:
- An appropriate profile photo (not a selfie). This does not to need to be a professional head shot or portrait but you should be dressed professionally, framed from your shoulders up, against a plain background. This should not be a selfie. If you want a professional headshot, contact the Career Services department to see when the photographer will be available to take portraits for students.
- A customized and shortened URL.
- An up-to-date headline. This should not include your title and company. You will want to consider adding your professional objective or the type of professional opportunity you are seeking.
- An up-to-date summary: This should be around 3–5 short paragraphs long, similar to your generic cover letter. It should walk the reader through your work passions, key skills, unique qualifications, and a list of the various industries you’ve had exposure to over the years
- An up-to-date experience section: This should include your current/most recent internships and jobs. Make sure your experience section is fleshed out with bullet points that describe what you did, how well you did it, and who it impacted with all of your previous employers. Be sure to utilize numbers and statistics along with employer logo when possible.
- An up-to-date education section listing your current work at NJCU along with any previous education you have. Do not include anything from high school or earlier.
- Anything additional that can strengthen your profile. Add any projects, languages you speak, volunteer experience, and certifications that you possess.
- Add your email address to the contact information section of your resume.
- Obtain recommendations. Have someone who you've worked for or interned with provide you with a LinkedIn recommendation.
- Connect with groups and organizations. You can start with ¿ìèÆƽâ°æ (NJCU), NJCU School of Business, NJCU Alumni, NJCU Career Center, and any other organizations relevant to your current/future career
