The Master of Science in Business Information Systems program will prepare students with the skills needed to work in the information technology industry. The program is designed as a bridge between business and technology and will be fully geared towards practice with learning experiences grounded in real world contexts. Students will not only learn analytical skills and use software tools that are currently popular in the industry, to find solutions to business problems that are commonly encountered in practice, but also learn how to manage an IT project and see it through to successful completion. As opposed to a pure computer science program, this program caters to the burgeoning need for information systems professionals who understand the business aspects of technology. Graduates of the program will be thoroughly prepared to hit the ground running in the information technology industry.
The Master of Science in Business Information Systems program aims to satisfy current trends in business needs and to give students career opportunities in the lucrative field of information systems. The median pay for information systems managers is $142,530 per year as per the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics. The World Economic Forum (WEF) reports that the IT skills gap is widening fast with at least 133 million new roles being generated by 2020 due to advances in technology, including AI and other emerging technologies. The WEF also estimates that over 54% of the workforce will require significant reskilling. A recent survey of over 1000 business executives by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) indicates that roughly half of those surveyed believe that the educational system is not doing enough to help close the information technology (IT) skill gap.
