Completion of this major prepares one to assume the responsibilities of a security professional/manager in the following careers and/or agencies: Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Agent, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Special Agent, intelligence analyst, language specialist, corporate security manager, information systems security, National Security Agency (NSA), U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Federal Air Marshal Service, U.S. Secret Service, major pharmaceutical corporations, State Police Departments, County Prosecutor’s Offices, and others. Continued study may include a master’s degree in National Security Studies or doctorate in National Security Studies.

A Bachelor of Science degree in National Security Studies equips students with a comprehensive understanding of national, corporate and cyber security theories and practices, and prepares them to operate on an entry or supervisory level within law enforcement, national security and business environments. Professional opportunities include law enforcement positions, the National Security field (CIA, NSA, NIS, FBI, etc.), security professional/manager at the corporate level, and others. Of the 120 credits required to graduate from NJCU, students must complete 27 core and 12 electives credits in National Security Studies. Those interested can earn the National Security Agency (NSA) Cyber Defense certification. With the flexibility built into this innovative program, students can pursue a dual major or minor in a number of areas such as business, math, chemistry, languages, and military science, as well as further study at the masters or doctoral level in Civil Security Leadership, Management and Policy and other related fields.

The Department of Professional Security Studies is proud to announce the expansion of its industry-critical certificate program for full-time undergraduate students at NJCU (all majors are welcome). With no additional cost, students can now earn up to six certificates and one cyber defense certification while working towards their Bachelor of Science degree.
The PSS certificates represent critical competencies directly related to their chosen career path and are designed to highlight each students’ knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) required to effectively operate in a competitive environment.
