Each year eligible student leaders, entrepreneurs, and activists are invited to join the program as part of Commitments to Action 鈥 projects dedicated to a specific program track of positive goals for social impact across CGI U鈥檚 five focus areas: education, public health, environmental and climate issues, human rights issues, and poverty.

According to the Clinton Foundation website 鈥淎t CGI U, students are not just discussing problems 鈥 they are taking real, concrete steps towards solving them.鈥

For their commitment, NJCU鈥檚 Tijjani and Crane chose Global Health Connecting, a track dedicated to collaborative solutions to global challenges such as women鈥檚 health, diseases, and access to basic and specialized health services.

Tijjani and Crane鈥檚 project was focused on developing a web-based application that could be utilized by hospitals and medical centers to create a network of care for recipients, improving accessibility to services in underdeveloped countries, with Nigeria being the first country planned for the initiative.

Thanks to the support of NJCU鈥檚 funding and the guidance of Drs. John Donnellan and EunSu Lee of the School of Business Management Department, Tijjani and Crane were able to become the first NJCU students to successfully complete the Clinton Global Initiative University course and continue developing their project following graduation. Tijjani and Crane expressed gratitude to their mentors, Donnellan and Lee, for their support and commitment, and the CGI U network.

"CGI U personally makes me feel like the world is doing something right through this initiative,鈥 Tijjani said. 鈥淭he tireless effort of the community and the CGI U team inspires me to want to do more. It makes me realize just how much impact we can have on our communities as individuals."

Crane commented, 鈥淏eing part of the CGI U community is an incredible opportunity. The mentoring group that Fatimah and I are part of has been very supportive. The modules were extremely helpful in teaching us how to take a project and make it become a reality.鈥
