NJCU SCIENTIFIC UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH INSTITUTE PRESENTS UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM

The 快猫破解版 Scientific Undergraduate Research Institute (SURI) will present its inaugural 鈥淣JCU Student Undergraduate Research Symposium鈥 on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, 10:00 a.m. 鈥 5:00 p.m., in the Michael B. Gilligan Student Union on the NJCU Main Campus at 2039 Kennedy Boulevard in Jersey City.

The SURI event is open to all. Admission is free. All morning sessions will be held in the Multipurpose Room. The afternoon 鈥淪cience Kick-off鈥 activity, which will involve all STEM clubs, will take place in the Student Union lobby. Refreshments will be provided

The Symposium will highlight the cutting-edge research being carried out by NJCU students in STEM departments: Biology, Chemistry, Computing, Geoscience, Mathematics, and Physics. Twenty-two faculty members in STEM departments are participating in SURI, an umbrella organization that fosters collaboration among faculty and provides a central clearinghouse to identify research opportunities for undergraduates in order to

The Symposium will open with greetings from Dr. Natalia Coleman, director of SURI; NJCU President Sue Henderson; and Provost Daniel J. Julius. Dr. Kenneth Yamaguchi, a professor of chemistry, will provide an introduction to the program. 

Student podium presentations will follow 10:30 鈥 11:00 a.m., with Dr. Reed Carroll,associate director of SURI, moderating the biology sessions of NJCU undergraduates Victor Leon, Jan Osea, and Giancarlo Perez.

Dr. Nurdan Aydin, a professor of geoscience and Dr. Yamaguchi, will moderate guest speakers Debbie Mans, executive director and baykeeper, and Meredith Comi, oyster restoration program director, of Baykeepers, a bi-state citizen guardian advocacy organization for the Hudson-Raritan Estuary.

A faculty presentation will be given by Dr. Debananda Chakraborty, an associate professor of mathematics, with Dr. Aydin as moderator. Students from all STEM areas will make poster presentations noon.
