NJCU COMMITTED TO PARTNERING ON PERFORMING ARTS AT JERSEY CITY'S LANDMARK LOEW'S JERSEY THEATRE; STUDENT INTERNSHIPS AMONG BENEFITS

¿ìèÆƽâ°æ (NJCU) has been chosen by the Jersey City Redevelopment Agency (JCRA) to have a leadership role in organizing and managing community events to be presented at Jersey City’s Landmark Loew’s Jersey Theatre under the management of concert promoter AEG Live. Following this announcement, Jersey City Mayor Steven M. Fulop publicly supported the JCRA's selection of AEG and NJCU for this collaborative effort.

The restoration of the 85-year-old theatre is a major component in the revitalization of Jersey City’s Journal Square area, which is a commercial center and transportation hub for New Jersey’s second largest city.

The goal of the joint effort will be to expand the size and scope of community events. Both NJCU and the AEG Live team at the Loew's will work closely to ensure that a richly diverse cultural program is offered. AEG and NJCU will present an inclusive, full roster of community programs and will inform and encourage various civic and social organizations, cultural organizations, faith-based groups, and all colleges in the county to consider hosting events at the Loew's. At least 30 community events will be presented annually.

As a benefit to NJCU, the University will also work with AEG to identify potential internship and independent study opportunities for hands-on experiential learning at the Loew’s Jersey Theatre. Currently, about 80 percent of the students presently enrolled in NJCU’s Caroline L. Guarini Department of Music, Dance and Theatre have been placed in internships or have had the opportunity to perform in productions throughout the metropolitan area.
