NJCU has been long recognized as an artistic hub of Metro 鈥 North  Jersey 鈥 and for good reason.

The University boast an accomplished international faculty in many disciplines, from music to theater, and from visual arts to literature. On any given day or evening, NJCU鈥檚 theaters and galleries host an array of performances, recitals, lectures, screenings, and exhibitions. The preponderance of student work on ready display unshakably demonstrates that NJCU attracts the finest creative talents in the region.

鈥淥ur University community is rich with talented artists and bold ideas,鈥 noted President Sue Henderson. 鈥淣JCU is proud to share this abundance of creative energy and inspiring work with our neighbors and all those who wish to expand their horizons and explore new worlds.鈥

Despite NJCU鈥檚 arts ambition, what has come before is only a launching pad for a program committed to growing even stronger, more diverse, and more accessible to more people in the years to come.

On November 15, NJCU launched the Center for the Arts, a program designed to bring its myriad performing, visual, film, and literary arts activities under one creative umbrella and promote and support exhibitions and performances both on and off campus.

The University has also formed a 20-person Arts Advisory Board. One of its objectives is to partner with other individuals and organizations to create what is known as a Cultural Vision Plan 鈥 designed to identify key steps toward furthering the vitality of the arts in Jersey City. The board is also focused on offering workshops that feature experts in fundraising, marketing, and board development, as well as performances and lectures by distinguished artists and speakers.

To highlight the University鈥檚 invigorated focus on the arts, the keynote speaker at the November 15 event was Tony Award-winning choreographer and artistic director Bill T. Jones, who reflected on his remarkable 40-year career in theatre.

This spring we have a wide array of programs and events for every taste (and many of them are free!). Be sure to check out  to our spring calendar. See for yourself why NJCU is Jersey City鈥檚 unquestioned Center of the Arts.
